Girona, Spain

We had one final stop in Spain before heading to Germany and the primary purpose was to see Ludovico Einaudi perform at the Guixols Area. This performance was part of the Festival Porta Ferrada 23. Ludovico is an Italian pianist and when we realized that he was playing just an hour outside of Barcelona during our visit we had to add it to our agenda.

The drive that was supposed to take an hour was double that due to traffic leaving Barcelona. If you read our last post you will remember that we mentioned how touristy and busy Barcelona was. We arrived at our hotel which was easy to get to and had the afternoon to relax and we couldn’t have asked for a better location. We spent the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the view and while the beach looked nice from this angle, it was packed with people!

As the evening drew closer we decided to look for transportation to get to the outdoor venue and we quickly realized there was none available. The arena was only about 2 miles away so we had to resort to walking. Of course we had our car but we knew parking may be an issue. We realized later that the only transportation available in this small town was a bus system and it would have been great if the hotel would have told us that but everything worked out fine and we can say we got our steps in for the day!

The concert was amazing and if you haven’t listened to Ludovico Einaudi then I urge you to check him out! That is if you like classical piano and strings. Trained as a classical pianist he now incorporates pop, rock, folk and world music in his compositions.

We didn’t plan to do much more while we were there other than the concert but if you put Girona on your travel list there are some other highlights that you may want to add to your list Ike visiting some of the medieval architecture or touring areas where Game of Thrones was filmed.
